While I waited for my car at the mechanics’, I sat with a family who also waited. Their conversation has stayed with me for the rest of the day, and I find it sad even now to type it out:
Child, pointing to the Catholic Church down the street: “Mom, that looks like a castle!”
Mother: “I’ve told you ten times, that’s not a castle!”
Child, more slowly, considering her mother’s words: “But it looks like a castle?”
Mother: “It’s not a castle.”

That’s a shame that some parents won’t even explain what it is, but instead just leave it at what it’s not. The child could have used a little more information in regards to what it ‘was’ rather than what it’s ‘not’, plus being a child she should allow her imagination to run wild, but instead had it shut down by her mother who seems to want to limit the fun that one could have in the mechanic’s waiting room…
What a shame…
