As I'm sure you've noticed, I didn't end up dropping that book off at your place on Saturday (although I did use it to kill a spider on Friday, so even though I can't speak to its content, at very least I can attest to the sturdiness of its cover) due to the rescheduling of my appointment in Guelph. In case you are for some inexplicable reason really hard-up for reading material, rest assured I will drop it off whenever I end up actually meeting my friend (likely within a few weeks).

In unrelated news, have you seen this? http://www.snagfilms.com/ It is a free online library of documentaries and apparently they have a fairly extensive collection.

Curtis,

Actually wild carrots are an invasive exotic species, so rather than make a bouquet, pull them up by the roots and boil them for supper. Just make sure that they really are wild carrots. There are similar looking species that would be decidedly unhealthy for you.

I don't think the problem is essentially economy and ecology but ecology and industry. If the problems cropping up in Providence Bay were at issue sixty years ago, the local mentality would likely be capitalising on it, wether through sites that allowed beach access despite the low water, or taking advantage of the plant uses, even if they be as simple or irrelevant as the flora and fauna's simple beauty. However, since the crisis is taking place within an industry rendered indifferent to marketing and adaptation by catering to autonomous desires like sun bathing, volley ball and boating- they're too stale and entrenched in their 'shiek' to harness their predicament, and lost imagination enough to change. When Life gives you wild carrots, make a bouquet, and so on.

Since our paths seem to cross far less frequently than you'd think, I'll drop it off on Saturday morning since I'm driving right by your street anyway (and parking near your house will save me the headache of trying to find a spot downtown).

Lauren,

No, I have not read it. Could you lend it to me the next time we cross paths?

Have you read Natural Capitalism by Paul Hawken? I haven't read it but Mike has a copy and based on how he's described it, the themes seem very similar to the ones covered in this post.
