Canada's Seniors: Our Roots, Our Future

Sat, Oct 28 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Sun, Oct 29 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Canada’s seniors are the link between our country’s past and future, and their insights are
an important part of Canada’s 150 commemorations.

That’s why a new play celebrating seniors in Canada’s past, present and future, will be
presented October 28 – 29, 2:00 PM, at the Eden Mills Community Hall, 108 York Street,
Eden Mills.

Canada’s Seniors: Our Roots, Our Future has been co-created by the Our Voices group of
16 local seniors, with Guelph-area playwright Catherine Frid. The group has been meeting
weekly since April, telling stories and improvising scenes, and is now in rehearsal for the
show with director Alexandra Lent, Artistic Director of Guelph’s To Be Determined
Theatre company.

The play’s scenes explore, among other things: the joys and pitfalls of the cell phone age;
how families have changed; and even a Utopian vision of the future. This comedic,
poignant and insightful show also includes a new song the group created with composer
James Gordon.

The Our Voices group is sponsored by Eramosa Eden Retreat Centre, and Canada’s
Seniors: Our Roots, Our Future is funded by the Guelph Community Foundation’s Canada
150 initiative and the Ontario Arts Council, with support from Guelph/Eramosa Township,
Long & McQuade, Guelph Little Theatre and Eden Mills Community Hall.

This is the Our Voices group’s second production. Their first show, Our Voices: Senior
Selfies, played to sold-out houses at the same Hall in 2014, so be sure to reserve your
tickets early!

Tickets are $15, cash only, at the door. A portion of all proceeds support the Eden Mills
Community Hall. For more information and reservations, go to:
