Silence Open Mic – October 2018

Wed, Oct 17 2018, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This month's Silence Open Mic at Silence Sounds (46 Essex Street), is at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, October 17, featuring Guelph author Marianne Micros.

Marianne expresses, in her creative writing and in her critical writing, a passion for old-world cultures and mythologies, for European history and literature of the Renaissance, and for new-world experiences of adults and children today. In her anthology of short fiction, Eye, published in 2018 by Guernica Editions, she explores the mythology, folklore, Greek customs, and old-world cultures that have fascinated her all her life. Her publications include: a book of poetry about her Greek family (Upstairs Over the Ice Cream, Ergo); a poetry collection that focuses primarily on her search for ancestors and family members in Greece (Seventeen Trees, Guernica); and poems and short fiction in anthologies and journals. She has also published scholarly articles on Renaissance and contemporary subjects and a bibliographical monograph on Al Purdy. Marianne’s suite of poems Demeter’s Daughters was shortlisted for the Gwendolyn MacEwen poetry competition in 2015 and published in Exile: The Literary Quarterly.

Admission is PWYC, as Silence would like to provide a space for all artists at an affordable price in an inclusive and accessible space. Sign-up for those who would like to read begins at 6:00 PM.
