Over forty years ago, Wellington County’s most prolific local historian Stephen Thorning began researching and writing the history of his beloved village of Elora. But it was not until after he passed away in 2015 that his family found the unfinished manuscript and granted the Wellington County Historical Society permission to publish it. Updated and illustrated, The Model Village and the Struggle for Success touches on many aspects of village life while offering a detailed account of the political machinations and industrial aspirations that shaped Elora during its first century of existence.
