Kasandra Coleman is an accountant by day and a children’s writer by night. She started pursuing her childhood dream of being a writer after being inspired by Kristyn Watterworth’s art, and hasn’t looked back since. Kasandra is the proud mother to two beautiful children with invisible disabilities, which has played a major roll in the messages behind her books. So far she is the author of three children’s books Art Brings Friends Together, The Pieces of Lola’s Heart, and The You, You are, Is Perfect, and has several other projects in the works.
After growing up never seeing representation of her family, Kasandra was passionate about ways she could provide representation for as many different children as possible. This can be seen in her books which include all different types of people in the form of animals. She also strives to share a message of inclusivity, acceptance, and friendship and has done many school visits where she talks about celebrating the differences we all have.
Her former career as a home daycare provider has given her some insight into what children need to hear to build them up, and she used that to help her write her latest book, The You, You are, is Perfect, which came about when she noticed how often the kids were comparing themselves to each other, she wanted kiddos everywhere to understand that they are a perfect version of themselves.
