  • We're looking for authors to help edit a teen story for the Guelph Public Library's Teen Writing Contest. Contact vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com for more information.

  • Join our Spring Writing Retreat at beautiful Crieff Hills Retreat Centre, just 20 minutes outside of Guelph, from 4:00 PM (or whenever you can make it) on Friday May 30, to 1:00 PM on Sunday June 1 – https://vocamus.net/community/blog/join-us-spring-writing-retreat-2025. Just a few spots left!

Events

  • The In Your Own Words Open Mic at the ArtBar (formerly the Ebar, above The Bookshelf), is on Wednesday April 2, at 7:00 PM, featuring Guelph poet Zane Koss. Signup at 6:30. Admission is $5 or PWYC.

  • Local author Kira Vermond is running her 23-Minute Writers’ Club online on Fridays at 4:00 PM for 45 minutes. And it's free! Email kira@vermond.ca for the link.

  • The Women's Writing Circle meets every first Saturday of the month, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Village Loom in Eden Mills. $15-20 suggested donation or PWYC. Drop-in welcome. Email villageloom@gmail.com.

  • The VWC Genre Fiction Group will meet in-person on Sunday April 6, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM to discuss writing character development. Email vocamusgenregroup@gmail.com for the location.

  • The Guelph Guild of Storytellers hosts Stories from the Hill at the Guelph Civic Museum on Thursday April 10 at 7:00 PM. 

  • The VWC Second Saturday writers' hang-out is on April 12, 7:00 PM at a NEW LOCATION – Royal Electric Bar and Eatery at 52 Macdonell Street.

  • Bill Hulet leads a VWC workshop on Open Source Research on Tuesday April 15, 6:00 PM, at 255 Woolwich Street. Register at vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com. Cost is $15.

  • The GPL is holding a 2SLGBTQ+ Book Club on Tuesday April 15, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Diana Downtown to discuss Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. This event is for adults. Please register here – https://guelphpl.libnet.info/event/12734775.

  • Aviva Rubin will launch her novel, White, in conversation with Kira Vermond at the Bookshelf on Tuesday April 15, at 7:00 PM. Check details here – https://www.facebook.com/61563028397348/posts/122150353316434279/.

  • Guelph poet Zane Koss launches his new collection, Country Music, on Thursday April 17, 7:00 PM, at Silence (46 Essex St), with guest readings by Jessi MacEachern, Emily Laurent Henderson, and Mike Chaulk and music by Ian James Bain.

  • The Last Thursdays Zoom runs on the last Thursday of each month at 7:30 PM. It's for memoir and other creative non-fiction writers at all stages. Email martina.freitag@gmail.com for the link.

  • Join the VWC Poetry Group online on Saturday April 26, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. It's an informal group for poets at various points in their careers. Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com for the link.

  • Join us for our VWC Last Sunday Writers' Hang-Out, an informal chance to meet and chat with other authors at the the front cafe table in Miijidaa on Sunday April 27, at 1:00 PM. All are welcome.
