Here's the June 2024 Vocamus Writers Community Newsletter.

Please take special note of these items –

  • We have a party to celebrate our new space at 255 Woolwich Street, and we're having a party to celebrate on Wednesday June 26, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. We'll have some light refreshments, some writing games, a make-your-own-chapbook table, $1 and $2 books for sale by local authors, and lots of other fun. We'd love to have you come and join us!

  • Come read your work at the In Your Own Words Open Mic, featuring Guelph author Ivanka Fear, on Wednesday June 19, 7:00 PM, at the ArtBar (formerly the Ebar, above The Bookshelf).

  • Vocamus Writers Community and the Guelph Public Library invite you to join the Teen ETCH anthology book launch on Saturday June 1, 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at the West End Library.

  • The VWC Creative Non-Fiction Group invites you to a weekly online drop in session, Thursday nights at 7:00 PM. Email martina.freitag@gmail.com for the link.

  • Local author Kira Vermond is running her 23-Minute Writers’ Club online on Fridays at 4:00 PM for 45 minutes. It's free! Email kira@vermond.ca for the link.

  • The Children's Reading Room presents Beyond the Book, with readings by local children's authors Sandra Wilson, Kasandra Coleman, and Courtney Harris on Saturday June 8, 10 AM to 2 PM, at 210 Silvercreek Parkway North.

  • The VWC Second Saturday writers' hang-out is on June 8, 7:00 PM at Atmosphere Cafe on Carden Street. It's a casual and unstructured chance to meet with other writers, have a drink, and chat about what you're reading and writing. All are welcome.

  • The Guelph Guild of Storytellers is at the Guelph Civic Museum on Thursday June 13 at 7:00 PM. Local tellers and invited guests will tell stories, followed by a short open mic.

  • Eramosa Eden is holding a writers' retreat from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sunday May 16 at 178 Indian Trail, Township Of Guelph/Eramosa. The fee is $25. Email glorianye@gmail.com.

  • The In Your Own Words Open Mic, featuring Guelph author Ivanka Fear, is on Wednesday June 19, 7:00 PM, at the ArtBar (formerly the Ebar, above The Bookshelf).

  • The VWC Genre Fiction Group will meet in-person on Sunday June 23 at 2:00 PM, discussing researching for fiction. Email vocamusgenregroup@gmail.com for the location.

  • Nikki Everts leads a free VWC workshop on Creating Characters with Character on Tuesday June 25, 6:00 PM to 8:15 PM, at Vocamus Writers Community's new space at 255 Woolwich Street.

  • Vocamus Writers Community new office warming party at 255 Woolwich Street, on Wednesday June 26, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

  • Join the VWC Poetry Group in-person at 130 Dublin Street North on Saturday June 29, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM.

  • Join us in person for our VWC Last Sunday Writers' Hang-Out for an informal chance to meet and chat with other authors at the downtown Red Brick on Sunday June 30 at 1:00 PM. All are welcome. See you there!
