Events

  • Guelph poet Melinda Burns reads from her new collection, Homecoming, at the Guelph Public Library on Thursday May 1 at 7:00. The event is free. Register here – https://guelphpl.libnet.info/event/13435166.

  • Local author Kira Vermond is running her 23-Minute Writers’ Club online on Fridays at 4:00 PM for 45 minutes. And it's free! Email kira@vermond.ca for the link.

  • This year’s Guelph Lecture—On Being, part of the Arts Everywhere Festival, will be on Friday May 2, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, at the Riverrun Centre – https://festival.artseverywhere.ca/event/guelph-lecture-on-being-2025/. .$10. 

  • The Women's Writing Circle meets every first Saturday of the month, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Village Loom in Eden Mills. $15-20 suggested donation or PWYC. Drop-in welcome. Email villageloom@gmail.com.

  • The Arts Everywhere Festival presents Allautik on Saturday May 3, 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM, at the Riverrun Centre – https://festival.artseverywhere.ca/event/poetry-in-performance/.

  • The Guelph Guild of Storytellers hosts Stories from the Hill at the Guelph Civic Museum on Thursday April 10 at 7:00 PM. 

  • The launch of Poetry In Place:  Poetry and Environmental Hope in a Southern Ontario Bioregion, is at Loyola House, Ignatius Jesuit Centre on Thursday May 8 at 7:00 PM.

  • The VWC Second Saturday writers' hang-out is on May 10, 7:00 PM at a NEW LOCATION – Royal Electric Bar and Eatery at 52 Macdonell Street.

  • The In Your Own Words Open Mic at the ArtBar (formerly the Ebar, above The Bookshelf), is on Wednesday May 14, at 7:00 PM. Signup at 6:30. Admission is $5 or PWYC.

  • James Nowak leads a VWC workshop on Enjambment in Poetry on Tuesday May 20, 6:00 PM, at 255 Woolwich Street. Register at vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com. Cost is $15.

  • The GPL is holding a 2SLGBTQ+ Book Club on Tuesday May 20, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Diana Downtown to discuss Stay and Fight by Madeline Ffitch. This event is for adults. Please register here – https://guelphpl.libnet.info/event/12734781.

  • One Thousand Trees presents Sharing Our Stories, Speaking Our Truth, an open mic featuring Keith McKenna, on Thursday May 22, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Cafe Creperie. Sign up at lisa@onethousandtrees.com. Reserve seating at 519-846-1618.

  • Author Christopher DiCarlo will speak on his new book, Building a God: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the Race to Control It, at the Bookshelf on Saturday May 24, at 7:00 PM.

  • Join us for our VWC Last Sunday Writers' Hang-Out, an informal chance to meet and chat with other authors at the the front cafe table in Miijidaa on Sunday May 25, at 1:00 PM. All are welcome.

  • The VWC Spring Writing Retreat is at beautiful Crieff Hills Retreat Centre, from 4:00 PM on Friday May 30  to 1:00 PM on Sunday June 1 – https://vocamus.net/community/blog/join-us-spring-writing-retreat-2025.

  • The Children's Reading Room presents Beyond the Book, a day of bookish fun for kids, including readings by local children's authors, on Saturday May 31, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at 210 Silvercreek Parkway North – https://childrensreadingroom.org/events/beyond-the-book-1.

  • Vanessa Westerman reads from her new book, Shudder Pulp, a Charley Scott Mystery, on Saturday May 31, 1:00 PM, at The Bookshelf.

  • Join the VWC Poetry Group online on Saturday May 31, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. It's an informal group for poets at various points in their careers. Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com for the link.
