  • Book Bash 2024 is coming up on Sunday November 3, and we want you to be involved! Let us know if you're an author with a book out in the past year, a volunteer who would like to help out, or a sponsor who would be able to support the festival. Email us at vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com.

  • Our annual Fall Writers' Retreat is on Sunday October 27, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at Eramosa Eden (178 Indian Trail, Township Of Guelph/Eramosa). $25. Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com to confirm your spot.

  • Peter Szabo leads a Vocamus Writers Community workshop on Screenwriting Facts and Fictions on Thursday October 3, 6:00 PM, at 255 Woolwich Street. Email vocamuswriterssocial@gmail.com.

  • Local author Kira Vermond is running her free 23-Minute Writers’ Club online on Fridays at 4:00 PM for 45 minutes. Email kira@vermond.ca for the link.

  • Former Guelphite Rebecca Atkinson Morris returns to town to launch her new novel, Other Maps, on Friday October 4, 7:00 PM, at The ArtBar with host Greg Rhyno.

  • Guelph publisher One Thousand Trees presents a World Animal Day event on Saturday October 5, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at Harcourt Church (87 Dean Avenue, Guelph). Visit www.onethousandtrees.com.

  • The Children's Reading Room presents Booktoberfest on Saturday October 12, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 210 Silvercreek Parkway North.

  • The VWC Second Saturday writers' hang-out is on October 12, 7:00 PM at Atmosphere Cafe on Carden Street. It's a casual and unstructured chance to meet with other writers. All are welcome.

  • Certified AWA facilitator, writer and editor Colleen Fisher Tully leads monthly creative writing workshops on Saturday October 19, 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, in  downtown Elora. Email hello@elorawritingworkshops.com.

  • VWC and the GAC present the In Your Own Words Open Mic at the ArtBar. Doors open at 6:30 so you can come a little early to sign up to read about 7 minutes of written, family friendly work. $5 or PWYC.

  • Jeremy Luke Hill leads a Vocamus Writers Community workshop on Creating a Writing Practice on Thursday October 24, 6:00 PM, at 255 Woolwich Street. mail vocamuswriterssocial@gmail.com.

  • Join the VWC Poetry Group online on Saturday October 26, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. It's an informal group for poets at various points in their careers. Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com for the link.

  • Vocamus Writers Community is holding its annual Fall Writers' Retreat on Sunday October 27, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at Eramosa Eden (178 Indian Trail, Township Of Guelph/Eramosa). Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com to confirm your spot.

  • Join us for our VWC Last Sunday Writers' Hang-Out, an informal chance to meet and chat with other authors at the downtown Red Brick on Sunday October 27 at 1:00 PM. All are welcome.

  • Guelph author Barbara Kyle has created two new video courses for writers: The Path to Writing a Page-Turner and How to Write a Successful Query to Agents. Full details are on her website www.BarbaraKyle.com.

  • Guelph author Aaron Blair has unveiled the cover of his forthcoming YA novel, The Mutant and The Mule.
