VWC Newsletter – Septembert 2023

Here's the September 2023 Vocamus Writers Community Newsletter, and there's so much going on we can hardly fit it all in.

Take special note of the Eden Mills Writers' Festival on the 10th, the Guelph Comic Jam on the 16th, the Friends of the Library Book Sale from the 20th to the 24th, and our Fall Writers' Retreat on Sunday September 24. And that's just scratching the surface.

  • Vocamus Writers Community's Second Saturday Writers' Hang-out is on September 9, 7:00 PM at Atmosphere Cafe on Carden Street. It's a casual chance to meet with other writers. All are welcome.
  • The Eden Mills Writers' Festival is on Sunday September 10, Noon to 6:00 PM, in the lovely town of Eden Mills, including local authors James Gordon, Barbara Kyle, Marianne Micros, and Jean Mills  – https://edenmillswritersfestival.ca/.

  • The Guelph Guild of Storytellers is at the Guelph Civic Museum on Thursday September 14 at 7:00 PM. Local tellers and invited guests will tell stories, followed by a short open mic.The event is free, but donations are accepted.

  • The Dragon comic shop is hosting its annual free Guelph Comics Jam on Saturday September 16, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, in the Old Quebec Street Shoppes. The event features lots of comic writers and artists, including VWC members Chris Sangan, and David J. Knight – https://guelphcomiccon.com/.

  • Guelph author Melinda Burns offers a six week Fall Writers Group from September 20 to October 31.The cost is $70 +HST. Contact Melinda at mbeburns@sympatico.ca.

  • The 15th Annual Friends of the GPL Book Sale is September 20-24 at 69 Huron Street, with everything from children’s items, to adult fiction and non-fiction, and media galore – https://fgpl.ca/book-sale-2023/.

  • Our Last Sunday Writers' Hang-Out is CANCELLED for August because of our Fall Writers' Retreat.

  • As part of Culture Days, Donna Mccaw will be doing storytelling at the Elora Public Library on September 26 and 27, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The first day is Canadian stories and the second is an interactive story called Ivan and Baba Yaga. The event is pay what you can.

  • Rhiane Heslop will be holding a signing for her new contemporary romance novel, All We Have Is Today, at Indigo Books in Stone Road Mall on September 30 from 10:00 am to 1:00 PM.

  • Join the VWC Poetry Group on Saturday September 30, from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. For July, they're meeting under the gazebo at 130 Dublin Street North. Email vocamuswriterscommunity@gmail.com.
