BARBARA SALSBERG MATHEWS has been making art and acting ever since she was a child. While in her teens, under Barbara Salsberg, she wrote and illustrated Your Own Story (1977) and Up In Bubbles (1979), published by Annick Press. At 17, Barbara started Mirror Mime Company, performing, making masks and teaching mime for over a decade.

With the aid of a Canada Arts Council grant she spent a year studying mime and acting at Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris, France. Barbara graduated from Ontario College of Art in 1981, completing a B.A in Fine Arts at University of Guelph and a B.Ed at University of Toronto. She also earned her M.Ed. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Barbara is a member of CANSCAIP.

Barbara’s interests grew into weaving visual arts together with theatre – designing and building interactive masks and puppets. She used her inventions as a corporate trainer for US and Canadian clients. Barbara co-wrote and illustrated a book, Type in Action! Activities for Enriching MBTI® Training in Organizations, using experiential education techniques, published by CPP in California (2002).

Since retiring as Assistant Curriculum Leader of Visual Arts from Toronto District School Board’s Northern Secondary School, Barbara now lives with her husband in Guelph where she continues to make art and write stories.
