MATT SOLTYS lives in Guelph, Ontario, along the Eramosa River, in the Grand River Watershed, somewhere in between Six Nations and Ojibway territory. He has worked on social justice and environmental issues for the past ten years, and is currently a full-time stay-at-home Dad, a small-scale organic garlic farmer, and a journalist on the Community Editorial Board with the Guelph Mercury.
From 2005 to 2010 Matt produced the weekly radio show Healing the Earth Radio on CFRU 93.3fm. Also in that time Matt co-founded the food security organization the Appleseed Collective, the Guelph chapter of the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement, the Guelph Free School, and LIMITS – Land Is More Important Than Sprawl.
Matt was a youth delegate in the 2005 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and in 2009 received the Bonnie McCallum Award for Unsung Environmental Hero, and was the Guelph Mercury’s Male Newsmaker of the Year.
