ANN CLAYTON was a teacher of Commonwealth literature at the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. She was a teacher of literature at universities in Johannnesburg, South Africa, where she also worked as a writer, free lance journalist and book reviewer.
Her critical articles on literature, arts, culture, and politics have appeared in South African, Canadian and international newspapers and journals. She has published several book-length academic titles: Olive Schreiner: A Casebook (McGraw-Hill), Women and Writing in South Africa: A Critical Anthology (Heinemann), Olive Schreiner (Twayne), and Speaking of Writing: Conversations with Canadian Novelists (Vocamus Community Publications). She has also published three previous volumes of poetry: Leaving Home (Red Kite / Snailpress), Eternal Day (Drum Media) and Migration (Vocamus Community Publications).
Since leaving academia, she has worked as a communications consultant for the Federal Government of Canada, working on parliament and policy-making, economic and social justice, women’s equality, and international development.
